Pet Insurance

This report looks at the penetration of pet insurance among pet owners and also considers the factors driving purchasing and pet insurance behaviours. It also puts this into the context of pet ownership in general and the attitudes of consumers to pets.

Pets are a great source of companionship and comfort to individuals. Many studies have shown that pet owners consider their pets as one of the family and may even put the care of their pets ahead of care for themselves or their family. In these circumstances, it is understandable why pet owners have insurance for the care and protection of their pets, but possibly of more relevance is why less than half of pets likes dogs and cats are covered by insurance. One possible explanation is cost, with the costs of veterinary bills playing a key role in driving up insurance premiums and the current economic difficulties facing the UK will also have played a key role in limiting the ownership of insurance in recent years.
