Food Safety
This report looks at current food scares and consumers' levels
of concern about them. It also examines general levels of hygiene
and assesses how worried people are about food poisoning and what
they believe the triggers for this are.
Food safety is an important issue that touches all consumers.
Although the high profile BSE/CJD and salmonella in eggs panics
have now faded, this does not mean that food scares have gone away.
Every so often new claims are made which have the potential to
cause a major panic.
Furthermore, food safety is not just about when things go wrong
- everyday handling and hygiene are also key factors, with food
poisoning the possible end result. This in itself is a conundrum,
with consumers having to balance being practical with being
safe.
