Three-quarters of British households now have access to a car, whilst the proportion of households with two or more cars has risen, from a quarter in the mid-1990s to a third at the end of the 2000s. Britain's car culture is highly ingrained but there are mounting concerns about the rising cost of driving, environmental impact, road congestion, and health and fitness.

This report offers a wide-ranging examination of British driving habits, encompassing: current driving participation; eating and drinking en route; in-car entertainment and navigation technology; motor insurance; the impact of rising petrol prices and environmental issues; potentially dangerous driving activities; and attitudes to driving and other drivers.
