Pet Food
Despite recessionary pressure, the market for pet food in the UK
has remained strong as pet ownership remains high and brand-loyal
consumers look to their trusted favourites to supply the nutrition
their pets require. Premiumisation continues to be a key trend,
particularly in cat food, with more upmarket single-serve trays and
pouches usurping the place of tinned food in the wet food market.
Increasingly value is being added to mid-market ranges - they are
being given a makeover in terms of new gourmet recipes and
refreshed packaging. For the future the industry anticipates that
traceability, locally sourced ingredients and concern for
environmental issues will come to the fore.
This study looks at the attitudes, buying and consumption
behaviour of consumers when it comes to pet food products,
specifically dog and cat food, and describes how these products are
developing to meet the needs of today's consumers.
